I want to introduce you to a wonderful woman from our online artist community. Mikell is a lovely and warm creative who I met in SARK's Dream Boogie online class. Last year Mikell lost her home and everything in a flood. Now a year later she is rebuilding her life and developed a 3 part tele-series to raise money. Mikell invited me to check out her tele-class, "Take the Rose Instead! A Beautiful Approach to a Beautiful You!" I really connect with the concept behind her series - it is about loving yourself which will guide you in making healthy choices. I know many of us are feeling the stirrings of taking better care of ourselves. As many of you know, I lost my home and its contents in a flood last April.  It's been almost a year and I’m now finally in the process of rebuilding my house, and am very much looking forward to having a home again. Storytelling + Collage Workshop

Storytelling+Collage: Unlock Your Own Story

Everyone has a story to tell and each one of us is the hero of our stories. In this workshop participants explore the hero's journey in a series of collage making and journal writing exercises. Inspired by the work of Joseph Campbell and Carol S. Pearson, I combine my love for the intuitive collage making process and creative journal keeping. 

In this workshop you'll:

• Be guided through the hero's journey, a process that you can return to again and again for exploring the stories that shape who you are and what you believe about yourself.

• Play with the creative medium of collage. Tips and techniques are shared for working with simple magazine style, mixed media, and digitally created collages.

• Sort through life experiences. The hero's journey provides a wonderful model for making sense of what seems like random events in our lives.

• Explore inner critics, outer critics, and fears and give them a safe place for expression. The process of listening to our shadow Selves actually releases what is blocking us from living the life of our dreams.

• Reveal your unique gifts and find ways to express them in the world.

You will receive:

• 8 colorfully illustrated lessons that explain each stage of the journey.
• Journal writing prompts and exercises.
• Inspiring affirmation cards to encourage you on your journey.

AEDM #23 - Storytelling + Collage

Today I've been working up the details for my newest online workshop. I couldn't resist putting a key in the digital collage above. The background is a combination of an art journal page and a painted background layer. I blended the two layers. The key is from a bookstore promotion of the book series, "Leven Thumps."  I offer several affordable online workshops. The next series of workshops will begin in January. Storytelling+Collage: Unlock Your Own Story

We are all living myths. We are the hero of our stories.

Using the intuitive process of collage making, participants will visually explore their own inward and outward journeys. Each week a new prompt and ideas will be shared based on Joseph Campbell's work on myths and the Hero's Journey. The series of collages will be the basis for writing our own stories. What stories do you tell about your own life's journey? This is an opportunity to explore your stories and even rewrite them.

Starts: January 14, 2010

Duration: 8-weeks!

Price: $30

Workshop Format

• The workshop can be accessed online anytime 24/7 at a password-protected e-course blog.
• Weekly lessons include several photos and colorful examples posted each Thursday starting January 14, 2010.
• Work at your own pace - If life gets busy, not to worry, you can pick up where you left off.
• Registration ($30) will remain open until March 1, 2010. Participants can take their time working through the lessons as the workshop remains available to them until December 31, 2009.
• Participation is optional. You are welcome to share your reflections and experiences as well as your journal pages but this is not required.
• Having a blog or Flickr account is not required but encouraged to share your work.

True North Arts Vision Journaling Workshop

~ Create the life of your dreams ~ NEW WORKSHOP!

• You need help clarifying your dreams.
• You wonder if there is more to your life.

In this workshop you will:

• Learn to tune in and listen to your heart and soul.
• Clarify your goals and dreams by setting positive intentions.
• Explore the common blocks and obstacles and strategies to work through them.
• Create a vision journal and vision cards.

Join me on a new six-week online workshop series to create the life of your dreams. We’ll use collage, a fun and easy medium to design clear pictures of your heart’s true desire. This workshop goes beyond cutting and gluing magazine images -- it is a series of projects that review many of the principles made popular by the Laws of Attraction (see “The Secret”), Shakti Gawain’s “Creative Visualization” and Dr. Wayne Dyer’s work including “The Power of Intention” and “Excuses Be Gone.”

What is Visioning?

Visioning is the practice of clarifying what you want in your life that leads to making it real. Vision boards (also called dream boards and inspiration boards) are made by cutting and gluing magazine images and words onto a piece of paper, poster board or journal. It is an effective way to help you to “see” your dream. Creating a clear idea or picture of your dream is essential to making it happen.

Workshop Format

• The workshop can be accessed online anytime 24/7 at a password-protected e-course blog.
• Weekly lessons include several photos and colorful examples posted each Monday starting July 20, 2009.
• Work at your own pace - If you will be on vacation and will miss a week or two, not to worry, you can pick up where you left off.
• Registration is open until August 24, 2009, the last week of the series.
• Participation is optional. You are welcome to share your reflections and experiences as well as your vision boards but this is not required.
• Having a blog or Flickr account is not required but encouraged to share your work.

Basic Supplies

• Sketchbook or blank journal (I like using a large sketchbook sized 11" x 14")
• Watercolor paper or card stock (for making the cards. I’ve even cut up old greeting cards)
• Notebook (optional for brainstorming, writing reflections, and note taking. You may want to use your sketchbook for this too.)
• Scissors
• Glue stick
• Brayer (optional)
• Magazines of various types
• Collect various things to cut up like greeting cards, junk mail, etc.
• Art and office supplies - the lessons may inspire you to pull out markers, highlighters, colored pencils, and other art supplies that you most likely already have on hand.
• Candle
