I gave myself permission to sleep in this morning. Yesterday when I woke up I felt so exhausted like I had been hit by a truck. I've been focusing so hard on my creative projects (of which you'll see evidence in this next week), getting to the gym daily, and clocking in my hours at the office. When I went to bed last night, I decided that I would give myself permission to sleep in and NOT think.
By coincidence (or not) I received Leonie Dawson's newsletter yesterday and her topic was burnout. She offered a long list of ways to nurture ourselves when we reach this place. You can read her article
HERE.
"Though usually regarded as the result of trying to give too much, burnout in my experience results from trying to give what I do not posess - the ultimate in giving too little! Burnout is a state of emptiness, to be sure, but it does not result from giving all I have: it merely reveals the nothingness from which I was trying to give in the first place."
Wow!
He continues, "When the gift I give to the other is integral to my own nature, when it comes from a place of organic reality within me, it will renew itself - and me - even as I give it away. Only when I give something that does not grow within me do I deplete myself and harm the other as well, for only harm can come from a gift that is force, inorganic, unreal." (pp. 49-50)
Today I slumbered.
I savored some solitude to listen,
to listen to my life speak.
I'm looking at those parts of my daily routine
that zaps my energy and drains my joy,
the parts that don't really jive with my values.
Our bodies are great communicators.
Are you listening to yours?

How will you love and cherish your body today? What is your body telling you about what you value and how you are spending your time?
If you need a gentle reminder to love and cherish your body, you can find this magnet in our
