Whaleback Light

Every time I sit down to create, it is an adventure.

I am open to the possibilities and opportunities of the moment.

I thought I might pull out my paints today and create a collage. For Art Every Day Month, I thought I would vary the materials, mediums, and subjects each day.

Oooh I couldn't resist a little digital play again today.

This photo of Whaleback Light taken in the summer 2009 while on a boat ride with my dad is a special memory. It was a gorgeous day. We had so much fun hanging out, just the two of us. Everything seemed perfectly timed. Our parking karma in Portsmouth was spot on. We enjoyed a lovely lunch of tapas at a new restaurant before boarding the boat. I am so happy we shared so many outings over the last six years. These days my dad is homebound. His health has improved since he came home a couple of weeks ago. I visit him weekly and we chat daily.

To alter this photo, I tried removing the color but decided that I really love the moody effect of the blues and little spots of red.

On my wish list is to photograph every lighthouse in Maine. I have several more great shots I may pull out and alter before the month is over.

Beacon of Love

I have a confession.

I am a hopeless romantic.

Could it be that I've watched too many chic flicks?

Could it be that I'm seven years out of a loveless marriage and believe,

truly BELIEVE

that love and romance is REAL and BEAUTIFUL?

I look on with sad eyes at the love cynics and couples who have let their love die. I know what they are feeling as I was one of them. Now, I don't rely on novels and movies for evidence of romance. I look to the couples around me. Just this weekend I spent an afternoon getting to know a fellow dreamer. In sharing her love story my BELIEF in LOVE was fortified. It is a story of a 40 something and a 50 something who waited for the right person. Today they both feel so lucky.

Their story tells me that it is worth the time it takes for the dream to come true.

Don't settle.

Romantic stories swirl in my head whenever I look at lighthouses.

As a singleton, I see myself as the lighthouse caretaker,

putting the light on, waiting for my true love to return home.

I can't tell you what he looks like, but I know I'll recognize him when I see him.

I took one of my lighthouse photos and removed the color. 

To finish this photo and to send out my signal,

I restored the passionate red light from the original color photo.

I stepped away from the computer and came back to this photo.

Hmmm. I like.

I think the beacon of love is done now.
