When you look out my window you'd say, "What are you talking about Spring hasn't sprung?" But, if you look in my journal you'll see that it certainly has.
The mix of colors and patterns on this page surprise me. If you look back on my use of color over the years, you'll see that I tend to be very conservative and take very few chances. The great thing about a journal is that you can experiment without worry. It's just a journal.
I'm surprised because, I would never think that these colors would go well together and yet, I think this page really works. Perhaps it is the repeating circle motif that holds it all together and the repeating color. The most important thing here is that I LOVE IT!
I adore my mini mandalas. It is so fun to scan and reprint them to fit my journal. This one is from a series of mandalas where I painted the backgrounds using a gelli plate.
I'm a sucker for good packaging and now that I have a place to put them in this journal, I'll likely collect more food and drink packaging that's cleverly designed. This collage is from a Trader Joe's chocolate bar. The fortune appeared on Thursday evening while dining at a Chinese restaurant in honor of the Chinese New Year. There is that word again...patience.
It is amazing how much snow we've had this year. We have been pummeled here in New England. It should be no surprise then that I'm drawn to spring colors and motifs.
I designed this mandala for Ash Wednesday.
I pulled out my cute typewriter for this next page.
My watchword for the week is DETERMINATION. I pulled words and phrases from the "determination" virtues card and rewrote some of the phrases into the first person.
Along the right side, I used a piece of my very own DIY washi tape using pretty Japanese paper.
I cut up a colorful napkin and embellished the flowers using green, blue, and white pens.
I'm having a blast playing in my journal. Can't wait to see how the blank pages for next week will take shape.
