This week has been a lower energy week for me. As I look at the calendar I can see that it is part of the normal cycle my body goes through each month. When our energy is low it is hard to keep showing up, putting in the extra effort toward making our dreams real. Even today I'm a bit late posting my daily affirmation. Even with the slower speed this week, I'm devoted. I'm showing up each day.
Hmmm showing up each day, that reminds me of this great TED talk by Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat, Pray, Love.
I can relate to what she says about the fears that come up for her as she pursues her life's purpose. There are times when resistance shows up for me and it don't get it because I love what I do. As I think about where this resistance comes from I can see that it is fear - fear of failure, fear of succeeding. Listening the Liz's talk, I see I'm not alone.
Liz describes her writing process as being like a mule, barreling through and showing up each day at the same time. For me I find that I'll have resistance and will avoid sitting down to work. I'll think about the topic that I'm exploring for days, but when I'm ready it spills out.
How would you describe your creative process?
I'm grateful that I keep showing up. I look at all that I've accomplished over the last 5 years of blogging and I see that I'm devoted to my life's purpose. It takes time and dedication to build a creative career and each day I'm doing it!
I'm so excited to begin my online class, the Journey of the Heart Journal on September 9th. I'm more than a facilitator, I'm a student too. I walk the journey right along side the participants. Each week we explore topics to help clarify our dreams, activate our creativity, face our fears, and find the courage to take the next steps. There is still time to sign up! When you sign up, you get to invite a friend for free. It works out to be $27.50 per person. How cool is that? CLICK HERE to learn more and to join the journey.
Here's to showing up!

Friendship Through Flowers
With all of this talk about flowers, I selected some of our favorite images to make this retreat moment.

When I shuffled my deck of virtues cards today, I pulled the optimism card.
These lines struck me:
We do not allow ourselves to be victimized
by setbacks or losses.
We are solvers, not complainers.
How often are you faced with situations that trigger fear? How do you respond?
Listening to what the fear has to say is the first step, but the question that helps me to turn things around is, "Where do you want to place your energy?"
For me I prefer to focus on my creativity, projects, and future goals. The fear may be a signal of something we are ignoring. Listen to this and then take steps toward redirecting your energy. The worst thing to do is to get stuck in a negative rut.
Notice where your thoughts are today. Are they focused on those things that will get you what you truly want in life?
Here's to keeping it positive and forward thinking!

PS - For today's photo I selected these berries...they represent the seeds we are planting today. What dreams do you want to grow?
Deep within me lies a tranquil spot. I've become more and more aware of this pool of peacefulness in the last couple of years. Those around me have noticed too that I'm more relaxed and at peace. This isn't to say I don't have moments when I feel irritable, anxious, or grouchy. What I'm finding is that I can transform those feelings more effectively now. I've learned to honor those feelings and to listen. Sometimes talking to a trusted friend is just what I need to release the fear. Other times my journal is the best companion as it is always ready and willing for me to dump my feelings onto its pages. At other times, all I need is some quiet time and perhaps a nap.
Two practices I want to make time for is meditation and yoga. Both help me to ease up and relax. How about you? What practices help you to find inner peace?
Several times this week, my husband and I woke up early to visit a nearby lake. We are collecting more video footage to create peaceful "retreat moment" videos. These videos are intended to give you a moment of solitude and an opportunity to rest and tune in to your heart.

Have a peaceful day!

I think play and playfulness are so very important to living a joyful life. Are you taking things too seriously? Are you taking yourself too seriously?
Today's photo was taken on Saturday at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in the children's garden. This place is stunning with so many interesting garden spaces featuring gorgeous flowers among water features, sculptures, and stone walkways. The children's garden brought out the whimsy in me.
I bet you want a closer look at that roof, don't you?
Cool, isn't it!?
I bet you want to take a look inside.
This little house offers a spot where children can sit and color. How charming!
This is a wonderful garden for children of all ages, even the big kid in you. I highly recommend a visit.
May the spirit of whimsy guide your day.

Remarkable things happen when we listen to our hearts:
we gain clarity, confidence, and joy
we take better care of ourselves
we activate our creativity
we set in motion our dreams
What changes are you longing for in your life?
What dream do you want to manifest?
You are invited to take a journey, a Journey of the Heart.
I have designed the Journey of the Heart Journal, a 6-week e-course to give you a space to listen deeply. 12 heart opening topics are explored with stories, affirmations, reflection questions, retreat moments, interviews, and gorgeous journal pages. No matter what you desire, this course will inspire you to open up for living the life you dream.
