Today our adventures took us to the NH Orchid Show.
I was eager to bring Fernando because I know how much he loves orchids.
When Fernando lived in Brazil he had a greenhouse and apparently quite a collection of unusual orchids.
He collected many of the species from his hikes and walks in the area where he lived.
When Fernando was impressed with the show, I was delighted. You see he has very high expectations. He isn't a fan of the hybrids that we see for sale at the grocery stores or places like Home Depot.
Would you believe that this is an orchid?
Check out these sweet miniature orchids. There were some even smaller, but I didn't remember to pack my macro lens.
This shot gives you an idea of how many of the displays look. Some of the displays are from individual enthusiasts, others from area orchid clubs, and some from local orchid suppliers.
I'll leave you with this gorgeous display. If you get a chance check your area out for orchid or flower shows. They truly are a feast for the eyes.

Then Fernando would go wild here in Raleigh. There is a fantastic garden center which specializes in orchids and they have a couple of open houses each year. They also will baby sit your orchids between bloomings. I love going there with my camera.

Hi, Kathryn! I am fascinated by these orchids. I actually had no idea there was such a variety out there. I guess I've only seen the hybrids! How lovely that your husband was able to collect so many species from his natural surroundings.
