In the last month I've enjoyed many opportunities to meet face to face (F2F) with other artists. This last Thursday I stopped by Borders Bookstore in Concord, NH for an Art Share with other members of the Women's Caucus for Art NH Chapter (WCA-NH). Pictured above (L to R) is Bev Norton, Phyllis Hoffman, Pat Davis, and Caroline West. We took turns sharing our current creative and artistic pursuits. We chatted about the creative process when one artist mentioned how she was feeling creatively stuck. Another artist advised, "You just need to show up. Show up and do the work." I had heard Elizabeth Gilbert, writer of Eat, Pray, Love give this same advice in the following (MUST-SEE) TED talk.
Okay. Stop and take a moment to listen to the following video. Whether you are a visual artist or a writer, this talk is for *YOU*
As for me, I have been showing up each day to do my job. Although my blog posts are not frequent, I have been creating a new original piece of art each and every day. These works will debut in the weeks and months ahead as they are part of a new True North Arts initiative. Starting my day making art opens up that creative well - I'm so energized and I find it hard to keep up. I'm pacing myself - slowing down on e-mail and blogging a bit so I can be certain to make time to eat, pray, and love.
