In January, Michelle Ward's GPP Street Team challenge was to pick a shape and play with it. I played with the damask shape and you can see my results HERE. I loved the shape and the new colors that I played with but I was not happy with the composition of my journal page. I tried to brush it off and say, "Oh I'm just playing." But each time flipped through my journal I stopped on these pages and felt big sighs.
Michelle's February challenge was the perfect solution. She suggests we look at "portion control" with our new shape diet (she is so clever). Showing some of the shape is far more intriguing and interesting than the whole thing. I tore out my journal page and started cutting it up into hearts and birds. Wow! I now love my page.
Check out these before and after shots - Damask Before and Damask Remixed!
Cool, eh? Now if you have a journal page that you look at and go, "eh." My advice is to pull out some scissors and start cutting!

HEY Kathryn! GREAT Crusades post... it's amazing, isn't it, what we can do when we look at things differently?!? Brava, girlfriend!

Kathryn - loving your enthusiasm for re-shaping and portion control. Your graphic showing boring/interesting is great! I love your new page, but I liked the old one too. THanks for sharing your process with the team!!

I like the remix version, too. The newer one has more energy and flow than the first picture. Not sure if that makes sense. I'm going to try the portion control idea.

great advice! I actually liked the before, but have to admit the after really does add quite a bit of interest. :)

I'd say you made some raspberry lemonade with what you considered a lemon. Very cool & smart to recycle your first attempt.

This is a great idea - and I have several pages of my own I can nominate for this process! Thanks for sharing!
Also- just curious - is that oh-so-cool "Collage Diva" "signature" in the corner something you add in digitally, do you draw it freehand, or did you have a stamp made? However you do it, it is very cool, and I was just wondering. It looks great!

Actually, I think you did great on both pages. Your color combos and shapes are very well "balanced" in both! Great job sweetie!

Hi Kathryn
i already liked the damask page, but i most say that the new page really ROCKS!!! Might it be because my fav shapes are hearts and birds???? Maybe, but it is a great job and thanks for sharing the process with us. The swirls and the writing are also a perfect fit!

You took a risk (atleast I would consider cutting up beautiful art a risk) and look how it paid off. Bravo to you Kathryn! Thanks for sharing this great idea.

I have been wondering why I don't get updates from your site - I thought I was a follower. But low and behold, I wasn't. So I remedied the situation and am following you and linked your site on my blogs sidebar. Geesh, I feel much better now. Each time I'd visit I thought to myself... how did I miss that!?!
Sweet relief and the joyful benefits of blogging.

Hi Kathryn, Isn't it amazing that something that lies before us can become wonderfully interesting when we see it through a different lense. Beautiful!

Hi Kathyrn! I'm so happy to have stumbled across your blog. I've been noticing serendipity in my life and was questioning it, then, voila!, you fueled my belief that all things are connected in some mysterious way. And I enjoyed looking at your projects and the way you stir up the creative cycle with journaling & your morning cup of java!

What an excellent post, Kathryn! I´ve read Michelle´s crusade last month but didn´t have the time to participate, but I agree that it was an amazing one (as is this month´s crusade). You´re really good in showing how you did something with your photos.
